here it comes
So, even though I’m biased, I think its safe to say that Ellie is a really beautiful little girl. She asked me to put princess braids in her hair, so of course I did:

I was trying to get a nice picture of her smiling, and suddenly she pops out with the most obnoxious, teenager-y fake-smile I’ve ever seen. I know I’m going to be seeing this smile a lot in about 10 years:

I say this mostly in jest… honestly, my sister and I were both very nice teenagers and very rarely fought with our parents. I’m hoping I’ll have the same good relationship with my kids when they’re older. David thinks we’ll be able to relate to them well since he’s into technology/video games and I’m into fashion/shopping, and those are things that teenage boys and girls are stereotypically into… and since our kids will probably inherit geekiness, we’re covered pretty well as far as that goes, too. One encouraging thing I’ve heard is that families that practice attachment parenting very rarely have trouble when their kids are teens – there’s enough of a foundation of love and trust and openness that its easier for them to continue relating to each other.
But that picture does make me wonder a bit…

How on earth can her hair possibly be that long??? When did this happen? Is it okay if I never go back home when I come to visit next weekend?
