bummer

Well, all week I’ve been excited that we were going to decorate the house for Christmas today.  But, its raining and icing this morning, so we won’t be able to go get the Christmas tree (we go to a local farm and cut one down) and its very yucky weather to hang the lights on the outside of the house.  So instead we’re going to have a fire tonight and roast hot dogs and marshmallows.  That will be fun, too, but not as much fun as decorating the house with the rest of the family coming over.

On a happier note, David and I have been very pleased with our new diet/way of eating.  We’re doing Intermittent Fasting, where we fast for 19 hours a day and then have a five hour eating window in the evening.  Its very easy to do, our main family meal each day is dinner, and its certainly made me feel better this week as we’ve been eating rich Thanksgiving dinners!  There are all kinds of health benefits to fasting, and you get many of those when you fast for less than one day, and so we’re quite pleased with this arrangement.  You usally take in fewer calories overall, since you only eat for five hours instead of the usual 12-14 hours of the day.  Its also much closer to the way of eating that humans have had through most of their history.  I didn’t know if I’d be able to do my usual strenuous workouts (30-90 minutes of cardio every day, heavy weightlifting 3 days a week for 45 minutes each time), but I’ve been managing just fine!  David’s happy that he can work all day without having to take time out to have breakfast and lunch, and I won’t have to pack myself a lunch when I’m trying to get out the door in the mornings.  Obviously, the kids eat breakfast and lunch as usual!  This plan would not work for children, pregnant or nursing mothers (Ellie’s down to nursing only a few times a week, so I don’t really put myself in that category anymore), or anyone with diabetes or hypoglycemia… but for David and I it seems to work great!
