good day

It was a pretty good day today, though I was a bit worried this morning.  The kids were playing on my computer, David had just finished in the shower, and I was checking my email on the kitchen laptop, when Ellie comes to tell David, “I saw a new bird!” and brings him to the office door, where a grackle has flown through the screen and was trapped between the glass door and the screen, flapping around pathetically.  At dinner, she was telling me about it and it was sooo cute: “The bird was stuck!  It was flapping.  I [said] ‘Oh my goodness!’ It flew away.”  The rest of the day was luckily not as eventful!

I’m still exhausted – I should go to bed (I was falling asleep while David and I were watching A Night At the Opera a couple hours ago), but I got that annoying second wind and I just can’t seem to shut my brain down.  I also got a voice mail from a friend that I tried to get ahold of yesterday and he said he was going to call me back late tonight, and I haven’t talked to him in months so I’d love to chat so I’m kind of staying up.  But I’m about to crash.

So here’s a couple cute Killy-isms: today when his best friend came over for a playdate he brought us some flowers from his yard.  Killy said, “That was so sweet of you – thank you!” just like an adult would.  Later, Killy knocked Ellie off her perch on my desk while they were playing on my computer, and I ushered them both out of the office, explaining that they couldn’t play in there if Killy was going to hurt Ellie.  Well, there was screaming and crying about this for a few minutes, and I explained to Killy that he really hurt Ellie and pointed out that she was still crying over it.  He went and found her and I could hear him saying, “I’m so sorry, Ellie.  Let me kiss it, okay?  I’ll take care of you now.”  It was really sweet.
