Wow
So, today I had a lovely day planned: I was going to drop Killy off at school, come home and work out for an hour while Ellie played, then go back to the school to meet-n-greet the falconer who was coming to do a presentation for the school. Then, I was going to get some thread at the fabric store and run a couple errands in town, pick Killy up at the end of the day, then come home and start on the denim quilt.
Well, that all went to hell! I got to school and found that the substitute teacher for Killy’s class was a no-show and so I ended up staying to sub all day. With Ellie in tow, of course. It actually went very well – the kids are all very sweet and I’ve taught preschool classes before, so it was manageable. I really would have preferred to have had some notice, though, so I could have talked to the teacher and planned some lessons. Instead we did fun preschool-y stuff: we played with playdoh, colored, used stamps (till the kids started stamping their faces, then I put those away!), took the kids on a nature walk, and read several bird-themed books to tie-in with the falconer’s visit. It was a pretty good day, considering.
Till we were leaving and Killy and Ellie manged to get incredibly muddy in the parking lot at school and were upset they were so messy. So I kindly offered to go back into the school to get some wipes to clean them up and by the time I’d gotten back to the car they’d walked all over the inside of it, totally trashing it. I nearly burst into tears, but held myself together enough to get home and throw them into the the bathtub.
We went out for pizza tonight, if you’re wondering.
In a few minutes we’ll put the kids to bed, I’ll work out while finishing watching Sweeny Todd, and then start cutting up jeans for that quilt. Then I’ll pass out in a big pile of denim and David will come shake me awake about 2am when he’s going to bed and tell me to go upstairs. Sounds like a good night, eh?
