look at my adorable… aprons!

You thought I was going to say kids, right? lol

Before I say anything else, though, I’ll update everyone that Ellie has been perfectly healthy all day today and (knock on wood!) no one else has gotten sick.  Hallelujah!

So, I’ve been lacking as a Stay-At-Home-Mom in that while I cook several lovely meals a day, I’m rarely in a cute apron. I decided to remedy that! I saw this pattern online, but didn’t want to pay $8 or wait for it to be shipped and thought to myself, “I bet I can figure out how to make that!” I make quilts all the time, designing my own patterns… Well, it turns out I’m pretty gifted at making aprons, too!

I made this one yesterday:

It even looks cute from the back!

Then I had fabric to make another one today. I overestimated the fabric I would need and ended up with quite a bit left over. I really liked the fabric and decided to make curtains for my kitchen window with it. I can’t decide if kitchy-cool that my new apron matches the curtains, or if its the height of dorkdom:

Speaking of the kitchen – I have been fixing some really fabulous food lately! Last night I wanted something fairly bland for dinner since Ellie had been sick (the regulars like curry, stir-fry, and spicey black bean soup were out!) so I thought I’d just make some noodles with a little bit of butter and parmesan on them. However, since I’ve been doing the South Beach Diet I haven’t bought pasta lately. So, in a fit of domestic-ness I made whole wheat pasta from scratch! I made fettuccine noodles and then made Alfredo sauce from scratch to go over them. I didn’t make the sauce as rich as it usually would be, but it was still delicious! I have half the pasta dough left over, and I’m thinking I’ll make some cheese ravioli with it for the party Monday night. Tonight I made cabbage roll soup for dinner – one of my favorites! – but I’ve come to the sad conclusion that neither of my children like soup. I don’t know why, I always cool it off for them, it has all the same foods in it that they happily eat when not in broth… Oh, well. I’m a mean mommy who NEVER makes an alternate dinner for whiner-babies who don’t like what I serve. I do soften that by always making sure there’s at least one side dish with dinner that I know each person likes, so there’s always something to fill up on even if you don’t like the main course.

And, after sewing I was only halfway through a Buffy episode, so I worked out for the remainder…

The aprons are FABULOUS! I love love love them! Also, I think it’s pretty sweet that your apron matches your curtain. The height of dorkdom is writing the Van Deemter equation on your shirt for an analytical chemistry final exam. (hee hee)
