endorphin high
I just took an excellent jog! I was out for 55 minutes – I did my usual five minutes walking to warm up and cool down, and the rest of the time I ran whenever it was flat or downhill. I’m still too much of a weenie to run up the hills around here. But I’m becoming a better jogger all the time! I’m considering attempting a half-marathon sometime this year, I think that would be fun. I have no interest in doing a full marathon, but I think I’d enjoy a half.
I guess part of it is just the endorphin high, but I always feel SO GOOD when I’m about 30 minutes into a workout. When I get to the point that I’ve totally warmed up and have been working my muscles for awhile and they’re just starting to feel the strain of the workout, that moment of “hurts so good!” If I’m out running, I suddenly feel so connected to nature, so happy to be living back in the mountains, so happy to just be in my skin. I spend so much time and energy being unhappy with my body, those rare moments when I can feel the muscles in my legs working beautifully, see my arms pumping, and just feel absolutely thrilled to have such a strong, healthy body… its wonderful. (Then I get home and change out of my workout clothes and start critiquing myself again. bleah)
