the latest quilt

I finished Killy’s quilt! Here was the process…

Buy the fabric.

At the end of Day 1, the fabric was cut and I had most of the patchwork all together (about 4 hours of work).

At the end of Day 2, I had finished putting the patchwork together and added the first border (about 2 hours of work).

Day 3: put the second and third border on, attached the batting and backing, did the binding (didn’t use a separate binding, though, just the backing), and quilted around the borders. I decided not to try to quilt over all the patchwork. (about 4 hours)

And, it transformed Killy’s room from this

to this!

I think it brightens up the room a lot, and really shows Killy’s personality.  I didn’t especially like the colors, I thought the red was too obnoxiously bright.  He likes it a lot, though, and was excited to sleep under it tonight. I’m never going to let David live down the fact that he looked at Killy’s bed after we made it with the new quilt on it and said, “Wow, the bedskirt really makes it!” Um, thanks a lot! The bedskirt was $13 from Walmart, straight out of the bag. The quilt was about $60 worth of supplies and 10 hours of work… (for the record, he says what he meant was that the bedskirt really compliments the quilt, which I agree with)
