a few random thoughts

- Killy and I are a lot alike. Except he’s super-aggresive. I’m pretty agressive now, but as a child I was quite timid anywhere other than my home. But, I think part of the reason Killy and I butt heads so often is that he’s a lot like me. I had David scan in some pictures of me from when I was a kid - I think there’s a little physical resemblence, too:

- David said that Katie told him that a big verbal step is when kids start lying believably… Killy has acomplished that! Yesterday, he would not stop throwing stuff at Ellie, so I took away his “baby eggs” (tic-tats). Generally, I don’t like to use punitive discipline, but I was really at my wit’s end. Anyway, he kept asking for them the entire drive to get Erin and on the way back. Every time he’d ask, I’d tell him “No. You hurt Ellie so you don’t get any baby eggs.” And then he’d usually just ask again… BUT, once he said, “Baby eggs for Ellie!” - he was asking me to give him baby eggs for Ellie. What a load of crap! She doesn’t eat tic-tacs! It totally cracked me and Erin up. I was also really impressed that he said, “Big ball bonk Ellie” while we were talking about it. One of the things he got in trouble for was throwing his new big ball at her - the ball hit her on the top of her head (”bonk”). A slightly related funny: Last week I was playing with Ellie and lifted her up into the air in our entryway and bumped her head on the hanging light (of course she’s fine), and Killy keeps reminding me of it: “Mama bonk Ellie.” I keep telling him it was an accident and I told Ellie I was sorry, but he keeps bringing it up, of course! His speech therapist was sooo impressed with him this week. He already has almost all the sounds kids are expected to aquire from 24-27 months (he just turned 25 months) - mostly putting the end sounds on words, he’s started using plurals, and he has a vocabulary of over 100 words. He’s also speaking in a lot of 2, 3, and 4 word phrases. In fact, he never stops talking now! He’s also doing really good at learning people’s names and referring to them by name both to their face and when we talk about them later. Right now we’re mainly working on getting him over a few verbal habits. He will still sometimes revert to a certain nonsense sound in place of the second syllable in some words. Its kind of a “yeah” sound, but with a lisp-y sound to it - the therapist calls it a “laterized tongue” sound, I think. But, he’s doing it less and less, and I just keep modeling the appropriate sounds. He also grasps the concepts of big, little, and all - something the therapist looks for. I don’t care how many people think I’m nuts for having his speech/hearing evaluated and getting him into speech therapy so early - I think its been well worth it. Yay speech therapy!

- My sister is a genious. Both kids were asleep when it was time for me to pick her up from work, so it was just she and I in the car on the way home. I wanted to stop somewhere for a treat, but couldn’t think of anything that was dairy free and caffeine free so I was really bummed. Erin suggested Sonic - they have slushes and limeades! Yay! So, I got a HUGE strawberry diet limade. Mmmmmmm…

- A bit of a bummer. My scale weighed me three pounds heavier than the scale at my midwife’s office, so I’d been subtracting three pounds from my weight for months. Well, our scale weighed Erin exactly the same as the scale at her doctor’s office today. So, instead of being 4 lbs under my pre-kids weight, I’m only 1 lb under it. Oh, well. I’d like to loose another 10 lbs over the summer. I’ve lost a lot of weight since Ellie was born, and I’m finally starting to feel young and cute again.
