off to bed

I need to go to bed…

Today was a good day, for the most part.  Speech therapy went great, she was very impressed both with Killian’s verbal progress and his increased attention span.  My task to work with him on for the next two weeks is to model (and get him to repeat) lots of 2-word phrases and try to get him to complete the second syllable in most words. For example, if we ask him to say “open” right now, he’ll say “o-yeah!” and substitute his infamous “yeah” for the second syllable.

I got him a Latches puzzle the other day, so he’s learned all of them now.  David and Erin both thought I was stupid to basically teach him to unlock almost anything, but we have hook-and-eye closures on the front and back doors that are about 5 feet high so he can’t reach them anyway, and the window locks are still out of his reach.  Montessori manipulables usually include lacing boards, tying boards, and latching boards, so I’m picking up items like that when I see them.  I also got him some wooden fish that are segmented and attached with velcro just like his vegetable set, so now he can cut up fish, too.  Erin said he’ll become a sushi chef now!

Killy was pretty challenging again today.  I know part of it is that he’s still cutting his two-year molars (3 of the 4 have cut so far), but does that force him to throw toys and chalk at me and throw groceries out of the stroller?!

One cool thing – Killy’s started getting interested in letters!  I think he can recognize A and B most of the time now.  I also think he tried to draw an A today, but it ended up being closer to two parallel lines than an A.  But he’s not even 2 yet, so that’s not too bad!  If he hears someone else singing the alphabet song he’ll sing along, and he loves it when I write the alphabet on the deck using sidewalk chalk – he’ll repeat each letter after I say/write it.
