up and down
I’ve been feeling pretty good for most of the last week… Today was not as good of a day, overall. The high point of the day was hearing the pediatrician say how wonderfully healthy Ellie is. She’s two months old today and is 23.25 inches, 12 pounds – that’s the 75th percentile for both height and weight. Our doctor did the math and figured out that she’s gained over an ounce a day since her last appointment, when she was 1.5 weeks old. Very impressive! All those people who were doubtful that I could tandem nurse can stew on that for awhile…
I’ve been taking several vitamins/supplements to try to get out of my hormonally-induced funk: Inositol, 5-HTP, zinc, B-complex, flax seed oil, and a pre-natal vitamin. (And, yes, all are safe to take while breastfeeding, while most anti-depressents are not.) I think its helping. Today was tough mostly because Killy was really wired all day and kept throwing things and hitting – not usual behaviors for him. Its so hard not to loose my temper when I get whacked in the face with a plastic toy for the 20th time! And, its even harder to keep my temper when he hits Ellie. Usually he’s very affectionate with her, giving her kisses and giving her the paci whenever she’s upset. But today it was like he was possessed! Sadly, we had a lot of time-outs tonight. We try not to use time-out unless he’s done something dangerous, but I think hitting and throwing things at his sister is dangerous. So, between that and the total wreck my house has become AGAIN I’ve been feeling very down today. Plus, I’m really worried about Killy’s hearing and we failed to get a hearing test done today at the doctor’s office. Killy freaked out when the nurse tried to put the test probe in his ear and it won’t work if he’s crying. (David’s biological mother was hearing impaired and Killy has routinely dropped the end off of his words since he started talking, so I’m worried – and the pediatrician agreed that his speech is not as concise as it could be so she said we should do another hearing test. We just can’t get one done!)
There was a University of Richmond alumni dinner in town last night and it was great – everyone there commented on how beautiful Killy and Ellie are, how smart Killy is, and one woman even told me that she thought it was wonderful that we were planning on having more kids since our first two are so great! I was a bit self-concious taking them to the event, but I wanted to introduce them to the former University Chaplain who hosted the event.
