relief
Yesterday was one of the most challenging days I’ve ever had as a mother. Killian was VERY difficult all day. Throwing things, spitting water on the floor, throwing tantrums, playing very rough… Then last night he slept nine hours straight, woke up to nurse, and then slept for another three hours. Wow! Usually, he sleeps about 8 hours a night – he must have exhausted himself as much as he exhausted me! Today was much, much better. We went and played at the Children’s Museum for over two hours and then had a lovely nap during the afternoon. Then Erin babysat him while Ellie and I went to Walmart. And – bonus! – I found a tandem stroller that I can put Ellie’s carseat directly into! Usually, I’m very opposed to using strollers, but when its so bitterly cold (we can go weeks without getting up to freezing during the winter, it got down to -5 the other night), I need a way to go places without taking Ellie out of her carseat where she’s all bundled up. Plus, its hard for me to carry Killy through parking lots while holding the carseat with Ellie in it. When I carry both its close to 40 pounds total!
Today was my first time going out with both kids by myself. It went okay, but its a challenge when its cold outside. I wish it were summer so I could just pop one of the kids into a sling, but that’s tough when everyone’s wearing coats and all bundled up (hence the need for the stroller). I’ve decided that I’m only going to have spring/summer babies from now on. The mother of my boyfriend in high school explained having kids to me this way: The first baby changes the marriage – you add a whole new person into your relationship and it changes everything. The second baby affects the mother’s mobility – you can go anywhere with one baby, but its a lot tougher with two. The third baby is easy – it doesn’t change anything. She was SOOOO right!
I’m still sticking with my postpartum workout – I’ve done it three of the last four days! Go me!
I’ve got to get to bed now…
