my day off!

Today, David gave me the whole day off! He got up with Killy so I got to sleep in a little, then I watched a movie with Erin (the movie was about an infertile couple and it was sad, so after it I had to go cuddle with Killy for a little while), I took a long luxurious shower, went to Whole Foods for lunch, went to Michael’s and JoAnn’s craft/fabric stores, then I came home and sewed for a few hours, then went back out to get more thread and some stuff so David could finish fixing dinner, finished my sewing projects, and then took a walk with David and Killy. WOW! This was the most productive day I’ve had in awhile… and I got to do a lot of stuff that I normally can’t do while wrangling a toddler.

My sewing projects are showcased in the gallery, because I’m sure everyone who reads this is fascinated. (haha!) First I made a lovely sage-green terrycloth body-pillow pillowcase (I got the idea off a website that sells these pillows for $200!). The pillowcase has a “tail” that comes out from the side (the entire length of the bodypillow), that you can lay across the bed to protect your sheets from co-sleeping baby messes like spit up and leaky diapers. So, you don’t have to be stripping and washing your sheets as often – you just throw the pillowcase into the wash whenever there’s a mess. How brilliant is that? Plus – and this is gross, I know – the first few weeks after you give birth you have night sweats as your body purges all the excess fluid from pregnancy. So, I think a nice terrycloth layer over the sheets will make the bed more comfy anyway. (That’s one of those fun tidbits NO ONE every tells pregnant women!)

My second project was making curtains for the nursery! I’ve been desperatly looking for the perfect fabric for the past year and a half, and have never found it. So, today I found something that works just as well, if not better. I had wanted originally to do curtains just like in “Goodnight Moon” – dark green and orange stripes. But, apparently no one else wants that color combination, so fabric like that does not really exist. However, when we moved into this house, the previous owners left the cream colored Roman Blinds on the windows in the nursery. Although, it always drove me nuts that the blinds on the big window were about 4 inches too narrow, so I never thought they looked very good. I found some material today that is striped with dark green that matches the walls, light green, and cream that matches the blinds perfectly. And, the curtains even cover where the blinds were too narrow. Its beautiful! And here’s what Killy did as soon as he went into his room with the new curtains (you should also note the beautiful wall hanging that is the cradle quilt I made for Killy before he was born!):
