long busy but good day
Today I feel like I’ve acomplished a lot. I did some business accounting, took Erin to work, went by Big Lots to buy some window sheers, got home and hung sheers in the dining room and kitchen, made breakfast, folded and put away towels, made our bed, put a load of colors in the wash, cleaned the kitchen and dining room, took Killy to the park, did a load of diapers and hung them on the line, took a nap with Killy (yay!), folded and put away the colors, fixed lunch, went to Costco, picked Erin up from work, weeded the rock garden by the office, unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, made dinner (bacon and cheddar wrapped chicken fillets, glazed carrots, and salad), watched the pilot of House MD, took a bubble bath while David put Killy to bed, and now all I need to do is fold the diapers before I go to bed. Oh, and throughout the day I also changed a ton of diapers and breastfed Killy several times…
How did I ever manage to work full time?! It is seriously a full time job to be a mommy and run a home… I don’t know how working moms do it.
In related news, here’s a conversation between me and Erin tonight:
Jen: So, when people see me shopping while seven months pregnant with Killy in the sling on my back they always look concerned. I can’t tell if they’re impressed with me or thinking “Why is that woman acting like she’s in a third world country and refusing to use a stroller?”
Erin: (laughing) No, they’re thinking, “That poor girl! She’s ridiculously pregnant and has a huge toddler tied to her back!”
The thing is that I really have reasons for not using a stroller or the basket of the shopping cart (I do occasionally use the basket, if I’m not feeling good or having a lot of contractions):
(1) Killy is much happier in the sling, and I HATE listening to a fussy toddler, and I’m sure most other people do to. Why shouldn’t I go the extra mile to make him happy? That’s a parent’s job, isn’t it?
(2) Its much better developmentally for him to be right at adult eye level – he sees everything I’m doing and I explain it all to him and we chat the whole time we’re out. If he was in a stroller I know I wouldn’t be interacting with him nearly as much and he’d be seeing a world of knee-caps.
(3) A purely selfish reason to carry him is that it keeps me in better shape! Carrying 26.6 lbs of toddler at all times is a fabulous workout. Try it for a day if you don’t believe me! (Okay, our digital scale said he weighed that much, I’m not sure that its correct. I would have guessed about 25 lbs.)
