Healthy Killy!

Killy had his 9-month appt today and he is wonderfully healthy! (Bragging ahead – prepare yourself!) He’s 22lb 9oz and at the 80th percentile for weight, 29.75 inches and at the 90th percentile for height. The pediatrician was impressed with his crawling and cruising, and that he’s using three words regularly (mama, dada, and duck — she said how many they’d expect at 12 months, I didn’t mention that he also uses a couple signs and there are a few other words I think I’ve heard him use once or twice, but not regularly – “cat” and “Apollo” and “more”), and really impressed that he’s doing both. She said usually babies tend to have the either the crawling or the verbal skills by this age, but rarely both. Go, Killy! We’re doing delayed/selective vaxing, and he did okay with his two shots – cried for about three minutes and then napped in the car. The Dr. also said we could stop mashing up his food and just give him table food – cool! I never made the really watery baby food like you get in jars, though – just fork mashing, so its not much of a change. It was a short checkup and she said everything was great. She also said I’ve done a great job of keeping him healthy this winter, since he hasn’t had a single sick visit yet. I told her it was the breastfeeding and she agreed, but said that the fact that he’s not in daycare makes a huge difference.

PS from David:

Killy just did the absolute cutest thing.

He’s learning to play ‘five’ – you know, Jen holds out her hand and says “gimme five” and he slaps her hand. He loves playing it with Jen, but doesn’t do it much with me. We do it most of the time when we’re eating, where Killy sits in a high chair between us.

Well today Jen and Killy were playing ‘five’ and I tried to get Killy to play with me. So Jen was on one side with her hand out, and I held my hand out on the other side. He looks at my hand, but doesn’t slap it. He picks up my hand and pulls it in front of him. Then with his other hand he reaches back over and picks up Jen’s hand and puts it in front of him — and puts Jen’s hand in my hand, so that we’re holding hands. And smiled.

Jen and I almost cried :)
